One of the world’s beloved teas, first popularized by the Earl Charles Grey, is a blend of black teas and natural oil of bergamot. Legend has it that the tea was originally a gift from a Chinese diplomat whose son had been saved from drowning by one of the Earl’s crew. The tale has no basis because Lord Grey never set foot in China and the use of bergamot oil was unheard of in China at that time, but this all makes for a good story.
